The annual Wangduephodrang Tshechu was introduced by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal after the completion of the dzong. The three-day annual Tshechu is attended by people from Punakha and Thimphu and provides the people with an occasion for merrymaking and revelry.
This popular event is celebrated over a course of three days at the Tencholing Army Ground, Wangdue. The festival dates are mentioned below.
The event takes place in Wangduephodrang and lasts three days throughout the fall season.
The tshechu is famous for the Raksha Mangcham, also known as the Ox Dance. During the event, a variety of mask dances are performed.
It closes with the Guru Tshengye Thongdrel being unfurled (large tapestry).
