Gangteng Monastery Festival in Bhutan 2022 will take place in the courtyard of Gangtey Monastery over three days.

This monastery is situated on a tiny spur overlooking the magnificent Phobjikha valley, which serves as a winter roosting site for endangered black-necked cranes (migratory birds).

The festival is held at Gangtey Goemba in Phobjikha valley – the winter roosting ground of the migratory and rare black-necked cranes.

The festival concludes with the Nguedup Langwa (receiving of spiritual wisdom/ power) that is a special blessing ritual for the people.

The mask dances performed during the event follow the Peling Tradition. The event concludes with “Needup Langwa,” which is spiritual blessings for knowledge and power performed by the locals.

In terms of Gangtey celebrations, the Black-Necked Cranes Festival, celebrated in November, commemorates the arrival of black-necked cranes from the Tibetan Plateau in late October.

The event takes place in the courtyards of Gangtey Goempa. In addition, the yearly Tshechu festival is conducted in the Gangtey Monastery, with traditional mask dances as the main attraction.
