The Gangtey Palace hotel, dating back to 100 years ago, has become more of a traditional landmark with rich historical significance. Commanding the best location in Paro, the hotel is famous for its view of the majestic Rimpung Dzong and the culturally rich Paro valley. It is said that the property belonged to the Uncle of the first king of Bhutan and later converted to a hotel that his grandson owns today. The hotel offers modern comfortable accommodation facilities. The place is cozy and warm with its narrow corridors and in some areas, the traditional age-old earth-rammed walls can still be seen.  Throughout the property one can feel the personal touch with artifacts on display, resembling a local house rather than a hotel. Surrounded by the scenic beauty of Paro Valley, Gangtey Palace offers a unique place to stay and relax. In 1995, the building was converted into a hotel, yet has managed to maintain the charm and intimacy of a family home. Fresh water to the hotel is supplied from the nearby mountain spring that is said to be protected by a legendary deity who makes sure that the sanctity of water is well maintained. Like every traditional Bhutanese home Gangtey Palace also has a beautiful traditional altar which has been displayed in several exhibitions, museums, and galleries in many European cities. There is an exceptional Shambala Fresco (a depiction of a parallel universe) at the altar that is one of the many prized works of art in Bhutan. Gangtey also houses a personal collection of rare religious clay statues.

The restaurant in the property specializes in Bhutanese, Indian and Chinese cuisines. Food is of good standard and view simply amazing. However, the highlight of the property is the in-house altar (Payer room), which anyone can use for a little spiritual awakening in mystical Bhutan. The hotel also features a separate lounge room, a garden, Laundry, room service, and a private car park.
